Todays job market realities

  • Today’s job is best viewed as a temp job of uncertain length.
  • Nobody owes you a job.
  • Loyalty, years of service means nothing these days. In fact, if you’ve been at a job for a long time, that could be a dangerous thing.
  • Your employer can fire you or lay you off anytime, with or without warning.
  • You can quit anytime with or without warning.
  • Americans are now competing with workers from all countries for many jobs and not just other Americans.
  • Expect more corporate downsizing. Middle management men especially.
  • More work for fewer workers. If you have a job, you will be asked to do more to pick up the slack.
  • Job security comes from your ability to produce.
  • Home based businesses will become more popular.
  • Telecommuting from home will become more popular because it saves companies money.
  • Temp and part time workers will increase in numbers.
