If you are broke or constantly struggle with too much month at the end of the money, it’s likely for one of several reasons. Once you identify what those reasons are, you can come up with a plan to do something about it. Personally, I was doing many of these myself at one time. Come to think of it, I may have a few I still need to work on!
Things broke people do:
- Buy new cars (or any car with a monthly payment)
- Use credit cards
- Eat out several times a week (more than once a week is too much for most people)
- Hit the ATM several times a week for more cash
- Don’t use free budgeting software to track their spending and cash
- Have cell phones with big monthly payments
- Buy brand named items in the grocery store or department store
- Buy nearly everything they have on credit (with monthly payments)
- Overspend on entertainment
- Smoke cigarettes
- Refuse to work more hours or extra jobs
- Don’t track and limit their cash spending each day
- Refuse to admit that they have a spending or money problem (the head in the sand approach)
- Do not give money to charity to help others in need
- Do not shop around for the best price before buying things
- Will not sell things to get money to pay off debts
- Refuse to shop at flea markets, garage sales, or yard sales
- Won’t buy used stuff to save money
- Keep buying things at retail prices
- Won’t read books to educate themselves about handling money
- Probably have cable TV and the high monthly bill that comes with it
- Shop for groceries without a written list, or shop when hungry
- Buy things they can’t afford to impress others
Did I leave any out? I’m sure we can think of more.
