What does the bible say about retirement? Not very much to be honest. For the most part, I am pretty sure that retirement is an earthly invention. Something that man created.
While reading an article in Our daily bread, I learned that God told the Levites to retire from their regular duties at age 50. See Numbers 8:24-25
However, retirement does not mean to stop working and sit idle for the rest of your life. Not at all. After we retire officially from one job or career, we are to work to help others with their needs. Perhaps you will work less hours, but you are still suppose to work if you are able.
Perhaps you will start a home based business part time? Or volunteer at your church? Or help a neighbor out from time to time? Nothing wrong with retiring. Just don’t plan to sit on your duff for the rest of your years. Keep busy and plan to help others.

When I retire I want to have retired from my own business. Therefore I want to be able to just work with different charities, start up organizations, maybe do consulting. I guess that’s not EXACTLY retirement, but doing what you want to do and not having to WORK is the definition of retirement right? So if that’s what I wish to do, then hey, that’s my retirement!:)
I agree, for me retirement is about having options. Working because you want too, not because you have too. And, doing something you enjoy doing.

My uncle just ‘retired’ last October. He got bored rather quickly and started his own company. LOL. For some, the fire never dies I suppose.
My brother worked 32 years, one job. Retired. After doing what he wanted to for 9 months, he got bored. Starting working full time again at age 52… in 20 months he will retire again for good at age 62. I told him “yeah right”. lol
